Ten Days in Maui: Packing Tips

It is hard to know what to pack when you are going any where let alone the beautiful island of Maui, Hawaii. You want to make sure you bring enough clothes to look cute compared to the amazing PackingTipsMauiHawaiibackdrops, but you also want to be comfortable. You want to bring clothes for hiking, but you do not wish to look dirty and rugged in a photo next to a breathtaking waterfall. Most importantly, you want to travel light, without forgetting anything important at home.

So here is how it is done:

1) Pack for the weather, not the season.

The weather in Maui does not fluctuate from season to season. It usually hits an average of mid-70’s to mid-80’s during the day. Be prepared with a couple of bathing suits to visit the beach. If you plan to visit Haleakala, know that it is the highest elevation on Maui and can be freezing, so bring layering clothes to stay warm. The humidity can be strong, so wear breathable fabrics with cotton to make sure you are comfortable. Also, you might want to bring a windbreaker if it rains.

2)  Pack for every occasion, but leave the heels home.

Maui is overall pretty casual. Bring stuff for the beach, for hiking, a casual day out, or a night at a fancy restaurant. A pair of cute sandals will do when you dress up and a pair of fun sneakers. You might want to bring water shoes, and don’t wait to break in any new shoes until you get here. Flip flops are always reliable, and maxi dresses are great for anything. Try to bring outfits you can mix and match, to lighten your load and have some variety in your travel wardrobe.

3) Other necessities.

I always take my snorkeling gear instead of renting. It is cost-efficient, and I do not have to worry about getting germs from others who have used the equipment. Bring a sunhat and sunglasses with a neck strap for protection. Take some jewelry that is versatile enough to match different outfits. I like to bring moisture wicking workout gear to exercise in. Don’t forget extra panties and bras!

4) If you forget something. . .

Don’t worry because there is an ABC Store on almost every corner in Maui where you can get toiletries or anything else you need (don’t pack heavy shampoos and conditioners!). Moreover, remember, the less you pack, the more you can bring home with you!

  5) And in case you still have NO idea what to pack, here is what I brought

  • 4 Maxi Dresses
  • 6 tops (mix of t-shirts and tank tops)
  • 2 pairs of shorts
  • 1 pair of black capris
  • 2 layering tops (1 Windbreaker, 1 light sweater)
  • 2 sets of moisture wicking workout gear
  • 1 pair of gladiator or dress sandals
  • 1 pair of flip flops
  • 1 pair of wedges
  • 1 pair of sneakers
  • 1 rash guard
  • 2 beach cover-ups or sarongs
  • 2-3 bikinis
